The Econometric Game is an initiative of UvA EB’s Study Association for Econometrics (VSAE).

The teams will work on solving a challenging and relevant case using the latest advancements in Econometrics and Data Science. This year, the case makers are professor Bas van der Klaauw and associate professors Nadine Ketel and Paul Muller. All 3 teach at the the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam’s Economics department. This year they decided that students will focus on the causal effects of educational policies.

This year’s case

Good education is considered essential for societies. But educational policies and academic outcomes still differ substantially between countries. In the case, Pisa data is used to investigate if differences in educational policies between countries can explain differences in academic outcomes. Estimating effects that have a causal interpretation can be an essential component of informing policy-makers about how they can optimise educational policies.
